Quotation Particle って

The particle (ttetteってッテ) is a versatile and common feature of informal, spoken Japanese. It primarily functions as a casual quotation marker, but also serves to introduce topics and define terms, often replacing more formal particles like (totoとト), (to iuto iuと いうト イウ), and (wawaはハ).

01

Quoting Speech and Thoughts

In casual conversation, (ttetteってッテ) is used to report what someone has said or thought. It follows the quoted content, which is typically in the plain form. This is an informal equivalent of the particle (totoとト).

It can be used for both direct and indirect quotations.
