The particle (ooをヲ) primarily marks the direct object of a verb. A direct object is the noun that directly receives the action of the verb. For example, in the sentence "I read a book," the "book" is the direct object.
In modern pronunciation, the character (ooをヲ) is pronounced identically to (ooをヲ). It is used almost exclusively as a grammatical particle.
01
Marking the Direct Object
This is the most common function of (ooをヲ). It is placed directly after the noun (a person, place, or thing) that is being acted upon by a transitive verb (a verb that takes a direct object).

02
Marking a Path of Motion
With verbs of movement, (ooをヲ) indicates the area, route, or space through which an action takes place. It describes movement across, along, or through a location.
This usage contrasts with the particle (dedeでデ), which marks the location where an action happens. For example, (kōen de hashirukôen de hasiruこうえん で はしるコウエン デ ハシル) means "to run in the park," while (kōen o hashirukôen o hasiruこうえん を はしるコウエン ヲ ハシル) means "to run through the park."

03
Marking a Point of Departure
(ooをヲ) can also mark a location that is being left or exited. This usage emphasizes the space you are departing from. Common verbs used this way include (deruderuでるデル) - to leave/exit and (oriruoriruおりるオリル) - to get off/alight from.
This is different from the particle (karakaraからカラ), which marks a starting point in a journey (e.g., (Tōkyō kara Kyōto madeTôkyô kara Kyôto madeとうきょう から きょうと までトウキョウ カラ キョウト マデ) - from Tokyo to Kyoto). (ooをヲ) with a verb like (deruderuでるデル) focuses on the act of exiting a specific, contained place.
