The (teteてテ)-form is a versatile verb conjugation used to link clauses within a sentence. It functions like "and" but can also express sequence, cause, reason, or method. The tense of the entire sentence is determined by the final verb, not the verb in the (teteてテ)-form.
01
Linking Sequential Actions
The most fundamental use of the (teteてテ)-form is to list actions in the order they occur. The action in the (teteてテ)-form happens before the action of the final verb.

02
Expressing Cause or Reason
The (teteてテ)-form can indicate the cause or reason for the state or feeling described in the second part of the sentence. This is often used with adjectives or verbs expressing emotions or potential.

03
Describing Means or Method
This usage explains how an action is performed. The first verb (in (teteてテ)-form) describes the method by which the second action is accomplished.
歩いて駅まで行きます。
aruite eki made ikimasu.aruite eki made ikimasu.あるいて えき まで いきます.アルイテ エキ マデ イキマス.
