Dropping 'của'

With personal pronouns, is often dropped in casual speech when the meaning is clear:

  • Bạn tôi là sinh viên.

    My friend is a student.

  • Tên bạn là gì?

    What is your name?

Dropping is especially common with kinship terms and close relationships. With longer or less obvious possessors, keeping is clearer.
