The Emphatic Adjective Linker 'ដ៏'

(dɑɑdaa) links a noun to a following adjective in an admiring, slightly literary tone. It singles the quality out for praise, a step above the plain noun + adjective pattern.

01

Noun + 'ដ៏' + Adjective

  • ផ្ទះដ៏ស្អាត

    phtĕəh dɑɑ sʼaatphteeh daa saat

    a truly beautiful house

The effect is to elevate the description — it is common in compliments and in more formal or written praise, where plain word order would feel flat.

02

'ដ៏' vs the Intensifier 'ណាស់'

Do not confuse the two. (dɑɑdaa) comes BEFORE the adjective and ties it to the noun as an admiring description; (nah) comes AFTER the adjective and is a plain degree word, "very". Compare a fancy attribute with a simple statement of degree:

  • ផ្ទះដ៏ស្អាត

    phtĕəh dɑɑ sʼaatphteeh daa saat

    a truly beautiful house

  • ផ្ទះស្អាតណាស់

    phtĕəh sʼaat nahphteeh saat nah

    The house is very beautiful.

03

When to Reach for It

Use (dɑɑdaa) when you want the adjective to feel emphatic or refined, especially in writing and praise. For ordinary, everyday description the plain pattern — noun directly followed by the adjective, no (dɑɑdaa) — remains the natural choice.
