In informal speech, adjectives can end a sentence without (desudesuですデス). Adjectives are divided into two main categories, (iiいイ)-adjectives and (nanaなナ)-adjectives, which follow different conjugation patterns for tense and negation.
01
い-Adjectives
These adjectives, in their dictionary form, always end with the hiragana character (iiいイ). To conjugate them, you modify this ending.

The dictionary form is used as-is to make a statement.

The Special Adjective いい (Good)
The adjective (iiiiいいイイ), meaning good, is an exception. While (iiiiいいイイ) is used for the present affirmative, all other conjugations are based on its alternative form, (yoiyoiよいヨイ).
- Negative: (yokunaiyokunaiよくないヨクナイ) - is not good

Using Adjectives to Modify Nouns
The way an adjective connects to a noun depends on its type.
い-Adjectives Before Nouns
An (iiいイ)-adjective is placed directly before a noun with no changes.
面白い本を読んだ。

な-Adjectives Before Nouns
A (nanaなナ)-adjective requires the particle (nanaなナ) to connect to a noun. This is where the name " (nanaなナ)-adjective" comes from.
元気な子供たちが遊んでいる。
genki na kodomotachi ga asonde iru.genki na kodomotati ga asonde iru.げんき な こどもたち が あそんで いる.ゲンキ ナ コドモタチ ガ アソンデ イル.

Note that some (nanaなナ)-adjectives, like (yūmeiyûmeiゆうめいユウメイ) and (kireikireiきれいキレイ), end with an "i" sound but are not (iiいイ)-adjectives. They always require (nanaなナ) before a noun.
きれいな花を買った。
kirei na hana o katta.kirei na hana o katta.きれい な はな を かった.キレイ ナ ハナ ヲ カッタ.

05
Connecting Multiple Adjectives
To describe something with more than one quality, you can link adjectives together using the (teteてテ)-form.
Connecting い-Adjectives
Change the final - (iiいイ) of all but the last adjective to - (kutekuteくてクテ).
この部屋は広くて明るい。
kono heya wa hirokute akarui.kono heya wa hirokute akarui.この へや は ひろくて あかるい.コノ ヘヤ ハ ヒロクテ アカルイ.

彼は真面目で親切だ。
kare wa majime de shinsetsu da.kare wa majime de sinsetsu da.かれ は まじめ で しんせつ だ.カレ ハ マジメ デ シンセツ ダ.
