A direct object pronoun replaces a noun that directly receives the action of a verb. This avoids repeating the noun. For example, instead of "I see the dog," you can say "I see it."
The direct object pronouns must agree in gender and number with the noun they replace.
- (I) → (me)
- (you, singular informal) → (you)
- (he/it) → (him/it, masculine)
- (she/it) → (her/it, feminine)
- (we) → (us)
- (you, plural informal) → (you)
- (they) → (them, masculine or mixed group)
- (they) → (them, feminine)
The formal "you" (, ) uses the third-person pronouns: , , , .
