Both mean "to be" but serve different roles. (bpenpenpen) describes what something is — a role, state, or category: (kǎo bpen kruukhǎo pen khrukhǎo pen khru) — he is a teacher. (kʉʉkhuekhư) defines or identifies — it equates two things: (nîi kʉʉ à·rainî khue à·rainî khư à·rai) — what is this?
With adjectives, neither is used: (aa·hǎan à·rɔ̀ɔia·hǎn à·ròia·hǎn à·rò̦i) — the food is delicious, with no linking verb needed.
