Romanian has two everyday ways to talk about the future. Both are common; the second is more colloquial.
01
1. The 'voi' Future
A set of helper words before the bare infinitive (the dictionary form without the ):
- (I), (you), (he/she), (we), (you pl.), (they)
voi merge
I will go
Va fi frumos mâine.
It will be nice tomorrow.
Vom pleca devreme.
We will leave early.
02
2. The 'o să' Future
The more conversational option: the invariable particle + + the subjunctive. Only the verb changes for the person; the stays the same for everybody:
o să merg
I'm going to go
o să mergem
we're going to go
O să plouă.
It's going to rain.
This is what you will hear most in speech. The two futures mean the same thing; and are interchangeable.
03
Watch the Look-Alikes
Both helpers collide with words you already know. is also the pronoun "you (plural)", and is also the article "a" and the object pronoun "her". What settles it is what comes next: a bare infinitive after , and after .
Îți voi da o aspirină.
I will give you an aspirin.
