Conjunctions: Linking Ideas

Conjunctions are among the easiest parts of Tagalog: most are single invariable words placed exactly where English would put them. Here are the ones you need first.

  • — and, plus (casual, tacking on an afterthought)
  • — but (everyday)
  • — but (formal, written)
  • — or

02

03

Both translate as "if" or "when", but they are not identical.

also introduces indirect questions:

04

Time Relations

  • / — after, then
  • — while
  • — until
  • — as long as, for as long as (before a whole clause)
  • — when (of a single past event)
