The Prefix 'ke-': Ordinal Numbers

Put in front of a number and it becomes an ordinal: second, third, fourth.

  • two - second
  • three - third
  • four - fourth

The one exception is first, which is .

01

After the Noun

Like other describing words, the ordinal comes after the noun it describes.

  • anak kedua

    the second child

  • hari ketiga

    the third day

02

Both, All Three

Placed in front of a noun instead, the same words take in the whole group: means both and all three.

  • kedua anak saya

    both my children

03

ke- Showing Direction

In (here, to this place) the ke is the word (to), written together with what follows. It points somewhere rather than counting.
