It’s always a unique feeling when someone writes about your work, especially when it’s something you’ve poured so much time and passion into. I recently came across a review of Lingora, which focused on an earlier version of the app. While it’s exciting to read such a thorough breakdown, it also highlighted how much has changed since then.
What the Review Highlighted
The reviewer appreciated how Lingora provides A1-level courses with compact units and the ability to click on words for base forms, meanings, etymology, and grammar references. They noted our various vocabulary review methods — quick review, flashcards, multiple choice, and matching pairs — as strengths. These were designed to keep learners engaged and cater to different learning preferences.
However, the reviewer also pointed out a small issue with word-by-word breakdowns, noting that certain English meanings could be confusing based on context. This is always something I'm working on to improve. Recently I added the possibility (for me) to add a further literal translation to the whole sentence - or a part of it. Because sometimes a word-by-word translation simply can't capture the flowery language of many a foreign sentence.
What’s New in Lingora
Since that review, Lingora has grown a lot. There’s now more variety in study games, better grammar quizzes, and much more granular grammar topics. For example, in the German course, if you have a verb like "haben" (to have) and click on it, it'll show you if, for example, it is used to form the perfect tense ('I have eaten') and the respective grammar topic will also be shown to you.
If you're curious about Lingora’s improvements or if you want to learn German thoroughly, check it out for yourself! You can download the latest version of Lingora on the Play Store or App Store.
Keeping Learners Motivated
The reviewer mentioned how the study methods kept them motivated. This feedback was especially rewarding because it’s exactly what I aimed to create. Whether alternating between review methods or focusing on mastering scripts, Lingora offers plenty of ways to stay engaged.
Since then, Lingora has introduced a range of features to keep you even more motivated. I thoroughly reinvented the lesson system to better track your progress and let you review the exact words and sentences that you need right in that moment.
Final Thoughts
The review gave Lingora a solid score of 4.85/5, which felt like a validation of all the hard work that has gone into it. But I’m always striving to improve. Lingora is more than just a phrasebook—it’s a tool designed to help learners truly understand languages.
